the best wedding venues in new york state

From the Hudson Valley to the Hamptons

There are many wonderful wedding venues in New York City, but there are also plenty of uniquely beautiful wedding venues scattered around the rest of New York State. From the nearby Hamptons and Montauk on eastern Long Island to the Hudson Valley in Upstate New York, you can enjoy an Aperol Spritz on a terrace on the water’s edge or go for a stroll on the farms and mountain houses of the valley.

Our editorial and natural approach to wedding photography matches the settings found around these areas of New York State. Whether you’re planning the entire special occasion upstate or you’re simply needing a pre- or post- big day weekend getaway to relax, here are some of our favorite locations.

The South Fork of Long Island’s East End is made up of the towns of Southampton and East Hampton, collectively known as “the Hamptons.” As a popular seaside destination, particularly in the summer months, the Hamptons are home to spacious estates sitting on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. A summer wedding at a venue here is unrivaled in terms of balancing style and sophistication with the calming nature of it's seaside surroundings. Weddings in the Hamptons are like relaxing in the lap of luxury; fill your day with champagne toasts and sandy feet in Gatsby-like mansions.

At the very end of the east end of Long Island is the village of Montauk, commonly referred to as "The End", another popular seaside spot that’s known for its beaches and sandy dunes. Established in the 17th century, the hamlet has a long history surrounded by stunning natural scenery, making it a charming location for an indoor or outdoor wedding. With a more casual approach to a beach wedding, Montauk’s wedding venues offer effortless elegance and a laid-back vibe that's sure to carry over into your festivities.

Just over 100 miles east of Midtown Manhattan, the region is still close to New York City, but leaves all of the metropolitan craziness behind. If you’re on the hunt for a great wedding venue in the Hamptons or Montauk, start with the locations we suggest below — they’re some of the best places we’ve shot weddings in this area of New York State.

The Parrish Art Museum is another artistic setting to get married in while in this part of New York State. With its tranquil atmosphere and a sense of refined luxury, couples choose The Reform Club for its unique blend of modern styling, historic charm, and idyllic landscapes.

If you’ve got a particular vision in mind and these established locations just don’t have what it takes to fulfill it, we also highly recommend renting a private residence in the Hamptons or Montauk and hosting a wedding party of your very own. Although this might require a little bit more planning, it also gives you a lot more freedom in creating a wedding that fits your unique vision.
Consider renting a Sperry Tent for an outdoor cocktail party, backyard wedding, or beachside ceremony and get creative with the decor to have a custom-made celebration.

If the resorts, hotels, and estates overlooking the windswept sandy beaches of the Hamptons and Montauk just aren’t for you, there are plenty more wedding venues in New York State to discover and explore.
The Hudson Valley provides equally picturesque surroundings, but with a more rustic, laid-back countryside style. Major industries of the region include agriculture, winemaking, and a burgeoning sector called Tech Valley, providing a mix of nature, history, and modern innovation. Divided into three sections known as the Upper Hudson, Mid-Hudson, and Lower Hudson, the Valley straddles Upstate and Downstate New York and is located directly north of the New York City metropolitan area. It’s home to many lakes, mountains, and plains full of farmlands, not to mention charming towns and luxury get-aways, making it a terrific destination for a weekend away.
Weddings in the Hudson Valley present lots of opportunity to bask in the great outdoors, while also enjoying some worthwhile relaxation with family and friends in cabins, mountain houses, and farms on historic estates. After a day of hiking a trail or paddling across a lake surrounded by trees, recover with cozy fireplace chats and long-table meals with your loved ones. The Hudson Valley holds a special place in our hearts for all of these reasons, and these are some of the best Hudson Valley wedding venues that we've loved documenting weddings at.
