the best brooklyn wedding venues

Our top 13 — Updated for 2024

If you’re looking to plan a wedding with style, and a whole lot of character, then perhaps Brooklyn’s wedding venues are for you. With historic waterfront locations and some impressive views of the Brooklyn Bridge, as well as a variety of authentically and creatively renovated industrial wedding spaces, the best of both classic and modern meet here. Williamsburg, Red Hook, and DUMBO are some amazing locations for stylish, editorially charged wedding images as well that suits our style of wedding photography perfectly. Think natural, effortless, and editorial.

Big windows, red brick walls, exposed wood or steel beams, and a true-to-its-nature, more raw look can be captured at many of Brooklyn’s wedding locations. For a minimalist look, the borough’s large converted warehouses create an alluring atmosphere that’s clean, yet inviting.

This guide aims to help you discover the best venues across Brooklyn to help demystify the wedding planning process (let’s be real… it can be overwhelming), while aiming to align your own personal style with what Brookyln has to offer. We’ve been lucky enough to have been Brooklyn wedding photographers for the last 14 years — many of those years have been spent wandering Brooklyn creating editorially charged wedding portraits with kind, creative, and stylish couples on the best days of their lives. We hope our own taste and experience is helpful for those planning their dream celebration. If you ever need an opinion or guidance, please don’t hesitate to drop a line. We’d love to hear from you.

Another splendid example of Beaux-Arts architecture, Weylin is an iconic NYC wedding and event space. Located just blocks away from the Williamsburg Bridge, the building was built in 1875 by renowned architect, George B. Post, with the interior being designed by Peter B. Wright.
Originally operating as the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, the building was bought in 2010 by a group of Brooklyn entrepreneurs. After an award-winning three-year restoration, it was transformed into what is now simply known as Weylin, renamed in honor of the 19th century Williamsburg character, Weylin B. Seymour, who was a beloved socialite, party host, and matchmaker — a perfect representation of the spirit behind the space today.
Frescoed domes, detailed mosaics and wooden carvings, and decor that fits its magnificent architectural era create a spectacular wedding venue. Multiple rooms and event spaces accommodate smaller parties of 10 to 20 guests and go all the way up to large parties of 300+.

North of Brooklyn and east of Manhattan lies Long Island City (LIC), another neighborhood that’s home to a few of our favorite NYC wedding venues. This redeveloped industrial area in Queens is well known for its shiny high-rise buildings that look straight across the East River at Midtown Manhattan. While not exactly Brooklyn, we find the style of Long Island City more aligns with Brooklyn (compared to Manhattan) and figured it would fit the vibe of our Brooklyn wedding venue list the best.

An ivy-covered 19th century brick building, The Foundry showcases lots of contrasting green space with a distinct industrial character. Originally manufacturing fine varnishes, the building was home to the Albra Metal Foundry.

Hosting events since 2001, the building offers 3,000 sq. ft. of raw interior (including a fully-equipped 1,500 sq. ft. industrial kitchen), as well as a lush outdoor courtyard, indoor greenhouse, and rooftop terrace that features impressive views of Manhattan’s skyline. Its history and new purpose make this an incredibly versatile wedding venue in Long Island City.
Rental of The Foundry’s main space comes with the ground floor and mezzanine and access to the Courtyard, offering a spacious outdoor area with views of the Queensboro Bridge.

The location can accommodate 125 guests for a seated dinner indoors, or 165 guests for a seated dinner in the Courtyard (with an option to dine under a tent in case of weather concerns).
The Foundry’s Terrace, Greenhouse, Albra Room, and Pool Room has its own particular vibe, offering additional space for larger guest lists or a more intimate venue for smaller weddings or cocktail receptions.

Sound River Studios provides a blank canvas to work with in a very different aesthetic. Located right on the East River, the white-walled gallery-style space has great views of the Manhattan skyline.
With a maximum capacity of 450 guests for standing cocktail receptions or 350 for seated dinners, with room left over for bars, buffet tables, a dance floor, and DJ booth too, this is an ideal waterfront wedding venue in New York City. For a full day here, including ceremony, cocktails, and a reception, capacity ranges between 250 and 275 guests. A 645 sq. ft. kitchen is also available for use during the event.
The main hall opens onto 1,300 st. ft. of outdoor terrace next to the venue’s private dock, allowing for an unusually fun mode of transportation to the event. This additional area that can be covered with tenting increases capacity by 300 for larger weddings. The venue also recently added a bridal suite to get ready in, if needed.

Sound River Studios is another of our favorite spots to shoot at because it offers a number of options when it comes to backdrop. We love snapping the celebrations, regardless of whether it’s using the classic city skyline captured from the dock, the rustic feel of open face brick in the bridal suite, the casual comfort found on the outdoor terrace, or the crispness of the clean, bright interior.

5101 4401 11th st., long island city, ny 11101

Built in the same year as the Queensboro Bridge, the Metropolitan Building opened as an electrical parts factory in 1909. In 1980, the long-vacant building was purchased by Eleanor Ambos for storage for her antique furniture rental business in Manhattan. She also enabled several artisans to use the space as studios and work rooms, eventually transforming the venue into a location for films and photo shoots.
Featuring three unique floors that are available for rent (by the floor), this venue is especially fitting for creative, quirky, and imaginative couples. Various props and furniture can be found throughout the floors and can be used during photo shoots, although some pieces are quite fragile.
The 2nd Floor has three main rooms and two smaller sitting rooms making up a total of roughly 6,000 sq. ft. Open spaces, vintage-chic decor, a blue sitting room, and 8 ft.

windows provide both history-loving and hipstery-leaning couples a great space to work with. The 3rd floor is the main props floor and is full of an eclectic mish-mash of vintage furniture. This space is especially appropriate for bohemian artists to have their way with. The red room is on this floor and doubles as a place for brides to get ready for their 4th floor wedding party. The 4th and final floor available for wedding rentals in the Metropolitan Building is around 9,000 sq. ft. of wide open space. More vintage mirrors and furniture litter the raw wood and brick. A small stage can be found in one corner and is surrounded by a dance floor, with a bar area on the opposite side. Two small structures, a library and a sitting pavilion, add some intimacy to the vastness of the floor.
The juxtaposition of authentically gritty backdrops mixed with quirky decor and creative wedding celebrations might make this venue one of the most adaptable to a couple’s specific tastes.

our favorite wedding portrait locations in brooklyn

  • Williamsburg
This trendy neighborhood in Brooklyn is the definition of hipster-chic and features amazing restaurants, trendy boutiques and cafes, and lots of cool street art. Made up of mostly repurposed factories and lowrise buildings, the area is full of working-class history and pure charm.
Its waterfront, the Williamsburg Bridge, and views of the Lower East Side of Manhattan across the East River make this a solid location to get an assortment of varied wedding photos in. Think grattifi and street art meets the Wythe Hotel upscale Hipster-chic. One of our all time favorite locations across the world to make unique images in.

  • Greenpoint
Another neighborhood in Brooklyn just north of Williamsburg to take wedding photographs in is Greenpoint. This history meets industry residential area is home to a large Polish-American community so many of the shops and eateries feature traditional Polish products.
With lovely 19th century row houses that can be found in the historic district and plenty of renovated warehouses that are now sultry cocktail bars, vintage stores, and delicious restaurants, this neighborhood has it all. The views of the East Village across the river are nice to take in too, adding another sweet setting to the repertoire.

  • DUMBO
DUMBO’s cobblestone streets and warehouse buildings meet near the waterfront overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge giving many potential options for both wedding and engagement photos. A popular choice, and for good reason — style wise you have an infinite amount of options here from waterfront views at golden hour, to cobblestone wedding portraits with more of an industrial twist.

  • Red Hook
We love Red Hook if nothing more for the feeling of being there — it’s an oasis inside of one of the world’s busiest cities. More serene than almost any other part of NYC, Red Hook is easy for family and wedding party portraits, and the backdrop is set to pre-war brownstones, the Statue of Liberty, and old-world cobblestone streets.

  • Prospect Park
Central Park — without the crowds. Designed by the same original designer as Manhattan’s Central Park, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, it has almost the same feel from an aesthetic and stylistic standpoint but is located in the much more laidback neighborhood that shares it’s namesake in Brooklyn. Highly recommended if you want to mix in some greenery with the city’s typical urban aesthetic.

As Brooklyn wedding photographers, we find there are also areas of Brooklyn that offer their own special vibe and are ideal to take some amazing wedding portraits in. For engaged couples interested in engagement shoot locations, we recommend these locations in particular as well.
